A half-pound tortie kitten picks the family car as her shelter right before a hailstorm, and manages to win over the one parent who wasn't ready for another cat: 'I didn't want a cat... but here we are.'

A hailstorm was evaded, but the storm of raising a tortie cat has just begun for this family.

There are not many cases in which such a tiny kitten is saved in the face of raging weather. But some do. These are the lucky ones for whom the Cat Distribution System succeeds in getting their human match to them right on time. Imagine getting the exact card you needed in your hand to complete a series in a card game, but with the life of a small cat on the line. So, you know, one major difference. But when a cat's life is saved, it always makes us happy, so we're here to share that happiness with the rest of the online feline-loving community.

But the thing is, the Cat Distribution System doesn't just affect the cats in need. They also have this special unit (probably) to make sure the intended person for the cat adoption is ready. Just to make it extra clear, if you've been confused about the commenters' notes about this cutie of a kitten being a tortie - like the mysterious nature of black cats, the endless goofiness of orange cats - tortoiseshell cats also come with a bag of stereotypes that define them. Torties often come with a fiery and independent personality, lovingly nicknamed on the internet as “tortitude”. This tortie-attitude is what makes these lovely and colorful cats special in the eyes of many. Not to mention that this specialty is almost exclusively female - only 1 in 3000 tortoiseshells are male.
But that's not where it ends with torties - they're also commemorated as good fortune bringers in many folk traditions! In the US, they're called “Money Cats”, believed to bring literal good fortune. In Scottish and Irish traditions, they bring good luck and prosperity to their humans. And old Japanese folklore has them protect ships and homes from spirits and ghosts, and other bad things.
So, yes, torties are fascinating!
